Hello everyone-

This email is being sent to you as a resident of Brighton Township who lives near the former gravel pits (the former Sunset pit and the adjacent former Livingston Sand pit that is now owned by the Township) at the northwest corner of Buno and Kensington Roads. The Township is currently involved in an arbitration against Clearwater Development (the current owner of the former Sunset pit) regarding its obligations under a Joint Planned Development Agreement (JPDA) to complete a residential development on the Sunset parcel and a park on the Township’s parcel. The Township is at a point where a decision needs to be made to either complete the arbitration process or negotiate a settlement of the issues on terms that are acceptable to the Township for the completion of the projects. The Brighton Township board has asked the Brighton Township Homeowners Association for their input on this decision. The officers of the Association hired me to provide legal counsel regarding this process, and the officers and I have met with Township Manager Brian Vick and Township attorney John Harris to secure the information necessary to provide the feedback the Township has requested.

The Association’s officers are now looking to secure feedback from all of you so your voices can be heard. To accomplish that goal, a survey monkey has been created and can be accessed at this link: Brighton Township Gravel Pit Resolution Survey. The information in the survey monkey will give you a pretty good idea of the issues involved in this dispute. The input from residents like you will help guide the Township Board on these important matters involving the drinking water, traffic impacts and what the Township park will look like in the future.

On behalf of the Association’s officers, we appreciate your attention to these important issues and look forward to your feedback upon completion of the survey monkey.

Thanks, Roger.

One response to “Township requesting feedback”

  1. This survey seems to be a farce. Both options are bad.
Two goals must be strongly sought by Brighton Township and possibly the county or state governments.

    1. The Sunset pit is a blighted area with the large exhausted sand and gravel pit. No further mining should ever be allowed, and application for permits to mine should be strenuously rejected.
    2. The property should be either left alone, or possibly reclaimed for residential housing (e. g. Sunset Estates) to be financed by a real estate development which could profit greatly from subdividing the area into lots to sell and building nice single housing similar to other nice subdivisions in the Brighton area.
The JPDA should simply be enforced with no arbitration and absolutely no settlement with Clearwater, other than them giving to property to the township.
